TODAY:   Church School meets from 10:45-11:05 today.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY: We extend our Christian sympathies to Jerry Branderhorst  and Ron and Laura Branderhorst on the death of their wife and sister-in-law, Chris, on January 3.  May God comfort them with the hope of eternal life in Jesus our Lord.

Ruth Van Hal is scheduled for knee replacement surgery on Tuesday.  Your prayers for a good outcome are appreciated.

We wish a happy birthday to Esther Van Gent who will celebrate her 89th birthday on January 14 and pray for God’s continued blessings.

“We would like to thank the congregation for the prayers, cards, food and other expressions of sympathy after the passing of our dear wife and mother.  Also, ‘thank you’ to Pastor Paul for his prayers, and the comforting graveside message at a difficult time.  Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15 – Sid Klyn and family

MONDAY: The all-church prayer meeting will be held online from 6:30-7:30 p.m. via Zoom.  We invite all to join us to pray for the ministries and outreach of our congregation, and to pray for our community and nation.  To join the prayer meeting, go online to: bit.ly/CornerstonePrayer.  You can also join by phone.  Dial 312-626-6799 and then enter the Meeting ID: 837 4073 2269 and Passcode:  316.

WEDNESDAY:  Christian Fellowship Hour will meet at 1:30 p.m.  We will have a potluck coffeetime (which was canceled in December).

Kingdom Kids will meet from 5:45-6:50 p.m.

GEMS will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Cadets will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Adult Choir will meet from 7:15-8:15 p.m.

THURSDAY: We’re beginning a “Discovery Life Group” for those considering membership at Cornerstone Church and for new members. The group is also open to other members who are interested in a deeper understanding of what it means to be a healthy member of Christ’s body in our local congregation. The initial meeting will be held via Zoom (due to COVID) this Thursday, January 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. We’ll meet every other week. If interested please contact Pastor Paul via email (plbradford@me.com), phone or text (mobile: 248-824-3662).

FROM THE DEACONS: The deacons have completed 2020 giving statements.  They have been either mailed or emailed based on your delivery preference.  If you have questions, do not receive your statement, or wish to change your delivery preferences, please contact a deacon so that we can assist you.

OFFICE HOURS:  Regina plans to be in the church office on Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons while Ruth is out.  Other times, call before you come to check if she is at church, or you can leave a message on the church phone or email.

PICTURES NEEDED: The Implementation Team is working on content for the new website and is asking for any pictures of church activities within the last two years that could potentially be used.  If you have any pictures to share, please send them to info@pella2crc.org no later than January 24.

HYMN/SONG REQUESTS, ANYONE?  Even though “social distancing” has made it a challenge to stay connected, please be assured that you have not been forgotten!  Choir members and other musicians would be happy to serenade you with a hymn or song that’s meaningful to you, even if over the phone.  Contact Barbara Boertje DeVries with ideas, requests, and/or for encouragement!

LIVE VIDEO: During this morning’s service a live video with audio of the service is projected on a large screen TV in the Fellowship Hall in the basement for parents or others who need to leave during the service.  Restrooms are available downstairs.  Our services are also live streamed and recorded each Sunday on YouTube, bit.ly/Pella2.

OFFERING:  Our offering today will go to the “Freedom House”.  Our offering January 17 will go to the “New Life Prison Ministry”.   Undesignated cash or check offerings go towards the mission or organization of the QR Codeweek.  If you desire to contribute to Second Christian Reformed Church and its ministries, simply write “Pella 2” on the memo line of your check. You can also give online by scanning the QR code to the right or by going online to pella2crc.breezechms.com/give/online.

For those not in attendance for any reason, the below options will remain available:

  1. Online – By logging into Breeze and clicking “Give Now” any member can donate through ACH transfer or Credit/Debit Card.
  2. Mail – Checks may be mailed to the church (Second Christian Reformed Church, 609 East 1st St., Pella, IA 50219). Please indicate “Attention Deacons” on the envelope.
  3. Drop Off – Donations may be dropped off in the slot in the deacon door at the base of the NW stairs. The door on the southwest side of the church is planned to be open during office hours. Feel free to call ahead (628-2966) to make sure the door is unlocked.

FALL DRIVE THANK YOU:  The Pella Christian High School board is grateful for the donations received for the annual fall drive and thank all who supported this fundraising effort.  Our goal was met due to God’s faithful provision and the gracious giving of our constituency!  This drive is instrumental in providing financial assistance to families so all parents who desire Christian education for their children can afford to do so.

THANK YOU:  Dear Congregation of Second CRC, Thank you so much for your generous Thanksgiving offering to New Life Prison Church!  You are a blessing to us and we appreciate your prayers and support.  Blessings to each of you in 2021! – Pastor Rick and Rose

CRC NEWS AND PRAYER ITEMS

GROUNDWORK: SABBATH REST – Does Sabbath rest just mean taking a day off?  Or is it more than that?  Join Groundwork as we study Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11, Deuteronomy 5:12-15, and Hebrews 4:6-11 to better understand what God designed and intended the Sabbath for and how this spiritual discipline can draw us closer to God.  Listen at GroundworkOnline.com

KIDS CORNER:  Esther went through some very scary times but still trusted God’s plan.  Maybe during the pandemic, you’ve been scared too.  Listen now at kidscorner.net.

AT-HOME FAITH FORMATION TIP – The Practice of Engaging Scripture: “Visio divina”  is the practice of meditating on Scripture using art or other images.  Try it by reading the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 and then meditating on the art in Calvin University’s collection based on this story (tinyurl.com/ProdigalArt).
